The spectacular and haunting Trolls rock structures near Black Sand Beach, also known as the Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks, are a major attraction in Iceland. Reynisfjara black sand beach is easily accessible, located on Iceland's Ring Road near the south coast village of Vik. Local legend has it that the rocks were once trolls, turned to stone as the rising sun caught them in the act of pulling a ship to shore. Science, as usual has a different explanation: the rocks are stands of hexagonal basalt columns which have withstood the forces of erosion better than the formations which now form the black sand beach. #TheTrollsSeaStacksIceland #BlackSandBeach #IcelandTravel #DownriverandUpillImages #ReynisdrangarSeaStacks
